Brief Introduction of the Scenic Zone

      Rugao—Excellent Tourism City of China, is located in the Shanghai Economic Circle of the prosperous Yangtze River Delta, with the Yellow Sea to the east, the Yangtze River in the south, and 150 km to Shanghai in the west as well as 200 km to Nanjing in the east.

      The ancient Rugao was the earliest land that took shape in the Jianghai Plain. It was the earliest place that went down in history at the Yangtze Delta and the biggest county during the period of the Republic of China<1912-1949> as well as one of the coastal cities that were open to the outside world earliest in China.

      The Shuihui Garden Scenic Zone, which is a national AAA scenic zone, lies in the northeast corner of Rugao and is adjacent to the East Street Historical Area. It covers a planning area of more than 30 hectares and now has finished 20 hectares. Totally, it involves scenic spots of Shuihui Garden and Yi Garden which were built in the Ming Dynasty; meanwhile, it also contains Gu Chan Garden, People’s Park, Museum, East Street Historical Area and Ling Wei Taoist Temple, all of which were built in the Qing Dynasty. All these scenic spots make the scenic zone a place featuring natural beauty, culture scenery and profound historical accumulation.
